Valenciaport's box volume shows increase of nearly 4pc in H1
SPAIN's largest container port Valenciaport registered a 3.84 per cent growth in container handling to 2.83 million TEU during the first six months of the year compared to the same period in 2024.
Valenciaport, which is the second busiest in Spain, reported an increase in container shipping of 8.33 per cent with 5.58 million TEU on a year-on-year basis, according to UK's Seatrade Maritime News.
However, transshipment volumes fell by 1.75 per cent in H1, while imports rose by 4.82 per cent and exports surged by 15.21 per cent.
The increased trade activity directly tied to Spanish foreign trade, particularly exports, reaffirming that the port's main driving force lies in the direct flow of goods to and from Spain.
As for Valenciaport's main trading partners, China remains the top country, with 386,562 TEU moved so far this year, followed by the United States (195,534 TEU), Algeria (160,993 TEU), Turkey (127,292 TEU), and India (81,795 TEU).
Beyond maritime container shipping, rail freight transport also performed well.
Between January and June 2025, containers loaded or unloaded by train, rose 5.93 per cent, 7.78 per cent more than in the first half of 2024. These figures reinforce Valenciaport's commitment to a more sustainable and efficient logistics model connecting the port with inland Spain.
